About Jared Fix

m_54b6937f6a2241d8afa3ac3d5ac94425I began exploring photography in high school. In my sophomore year, I volunteered to shoot the Children’s Hospital of Orange County’s doctor and cancer/heart patient reunion events, and I continue to shoot their annual celebrations.

I knew I wanted a career as a photographer, but had no idea what I wanted to shoot. The only thing I was sure about at the time was that I would never shoot weddings! After high school, I began an internship at The L.A. Lofts with commercial photographer Peter Dokus. Under his mentorship, I had the opportunity to work for several well-known commercial photographers assisting in the studio and on location for celebrity magazine features, clothing catalogs, and music CD cover shoots.

After my internship ended, I had a different way of seeing photography: I shouldn’t limit myself to one type of photography so early in my career. So, I followed my interests and began shooting event coverage for nightclubs. My images are featured on club promotional materials and nightlife websites.

With a desire to expand my photography knowledge, I gave up the idea of never photographing weddings. I met Scott Nelson, a Newport Beach wedding photographer, who took a risk hiring a 19-year-old who knew nothing about shooting weddings. I began assisting him by carrying cameras, and within a year became an associate, shooting solo weddings for Scott A. Nelson and Associates. At the same time, still serving as one of his best assistants when he needs additional help at weddings. I appreciate everything Scott has done to help me grow as a photographer.

I would have to say, the best part about being a wedding photographer is that every wedding is different—seeing two families join together and have the time of their lives and me being able to capture it all is my favorite thing.

I enjoy recording the moments before, during, and after the ceremony that reveal the small expressions of excitement and joy of the wedding party and the guests. I think true emotions, not posed or artificial, make the best candid images. With my experience shooting nightclub events, my skills in dark and active atmospheres allow me to capture the liveliest receptions. The experience I have from being in commercial environments allows me to creatively capture the cake, settings, and special details the bride and groom will want to remember.

When I work with a wedding couple, I adjust my demeanor to best suit their personality. From conservative and formal to casual and fun, I can create a comfortable photographic experience that captures the true emotions at the wedding.

My style of wedding photography is a mix of non-intrusive and candid photojournalism blended with traditional portraiture. When it comes time for the family and wedding party portraits, I try to make it as fun and painless as possible. When it’s just the bride and groom, that’s when I get really creative with the settings available at the venue. I base these portraits on how creative the bride and groom are willing to get. Contemporary, traditional, fun, romantic, and/or crazy—I can create what you want for your special day.
